April’s book club pick is Girl Code by Cara Alwill. I researched dozens of books, which I’ll share excerpts from throughout the month, but Girl Code came the closest to our SAM+CO theme for April: Can’t Compare.
It’s super taboo to admit that you compare yourself with others, that you feel envious of someone, that you struggle with feelings of keeping up with the Joneses. But, the truth is, I believe many of us experience this to a certain extent–in business, with creative projects, even with friends and family.
I admit this is something that I struggle with on the daily. So I wanted to start a discussion with you guys to chat about the ways we compare ourselves with others and ways we can resist this habit. We’ll also talk about that popular quote “collaboration over competition” and how community and having a tribe can help with feelings of comparison.
Girl Code “will teach you how to build confidence in yourself, reconnect with your ‘why,’ eradicate jealousy, and ultimately learn the power of connection.”
The book club itself is public and open to all. We will read the book together throughout the month, I calculated 3 chapters per week. Each week we will check in on Instagram and share our thoughts and takeaways from the book.
